Office Workout Challenge

Hi everyone! It’s another late night at the office for me :(

In an effort to keep up energy levels and ward off restlessness, different groups in my team have started to do hourly exercise blitzes. When the time is called, we alternate among a variety of exercises, including: push-ups, squats, lunges, chair dips, planks, burpees, and whatever else comes up. Other teams nearby must think we’re really weird.

My arms were already sore from yesterday’s workout, so I think I’m going to be sore again tomorrow. Here’s how the day went down (we didn’t get to every hour):

9:30- wall sit contest (~1:30)
10:30- walking lunges (~30 per leg)
11:30- plank (1:15)
12:30- 10 push-ups
1:30- 5 chair dips
2:30- 5 push ups
3:30- 10 jump squats
4:30- 5 push ups

I suppose it’s working because I definitely was not as sleepy throughout the day, even with only 5 hours of sleep.

Eats

I was quite excited this morning when I found out we were getting bagels for breakfast because Einstein’s Bagels has the most delicious pumpkin schmear…drool. I had mine with a toasted honey wheat bagel. I had a quarter of another later on in the day to use up the rest of the leftover schmear. I couldn’t let it go to waste, right? :P

For lunch I made myself a cheesy tuna melt on a whole grain tortilla with some celery and hummus on the side.

All of my foods are very brown today...

 

Workout

Minus the activities done at work, I’m off to do a 3 mile treadmill run, nosh on some spinach salad, and call it a night.

I still have no idea what I’m going to be doing this weekend, nor do I have a costume. Looks like I’m going to be a bit frazzled tomorrow. Good night!

Sky Dandruff

Hey! I hope that you’ve had a pleasant Hump Day :P

Sky dandruff??? I was once walking with someone, and they said something along the lines of, “I don’t like snow, it looks like dandruff falling from the sky.” Not a good visual, especially since I used to love catching snowflakes in my mouth as a kid. Yum? It sort of makes me laugh now when I’m feeling grumpy about having to drive though it.

It turned out that the storm was highly over-rated, but there was a bit of snow that fell last night. A majority of it was expected to melt before accumulation because it was 80 degrees on Monday, and the ground temperatures were too warm…go figure.

Where’s Mochi? When he was a puppy, sometimes I would lose him in a snow bank because it would completely cover him. I wouldn’t know where he went until his little black nose and eyes popped through the snow. *sigh* I miss his little puppy days :)

Eats

I kept the day light-ish because our managers were ordering dinner for everyone having to work late. Last time, they rolled with fried chicken, hot wings, and other not-so-good-for-you items, so I wanted to be prepared. I had oatmeal + almond butter + chia seeds for breakfast and a grain salad for lunch.

Dinner turned out to be pizza! I could really have gone for a big bowl of soup, but beggars can’t be choosers. I had a slice of veggie and a slice of sausage.

Oh, there was also quite the selection of beer to make us feel better about spending the entire day glued to a desk. I took a Woodchuck  Hard Cider. It’s a bit sweet for my tastes, but it helped to cut the greasiness of the pizza.

Workout

I started out with 2 miles on the treadmill at a slight incline and then went through the following strength training routine:

Superset 1: Bicep Curls + Tricep Dips (12×3)
Jump Squats: 45 seconds
Superset 2: Lateral Raises + Lat Pull-downs (10×3)
Superset 3: Incline Chest Press + Bent-over Rows  (10×3)
Walking Plank: 60 seconds
Side Plank: 60 seconds each side

It’s freezing outside, so I’m going to mummy-wrap myself in my bed and hit the sack. Have a great night :)

‘In Time’ Movie Screening

Good (Chilly) Evening!

I was lucky enough to join Quynh tonight for a free movie screening of In Time, featuring Justin Timberlake and Amanda Seyfried. I have a movie review, but first things first.

Eats

Since it’s the end of quarter, we got free breakfast at the office today, but it’s usually pretty fatty (and delicious). Today it was so-so. They ordered biscuit sandwiches from Chick Fil A, but they didn’t order any chicken ones, just sausage and bacon. What the eff. It caused quite the morning riot :P

I opted for sausage since I’m not really a bacon person, and I ate mine with grape jelly and Tabasco (don’t judge until you try it! I thought it was gross, too!).

Since breakfast was so heavy, I opted to have my usual oatmeal w/almond butter and chia seeds for lunch and snacked on some Greek yogurt and hummus w/celery.

I had to run home, take Mochi out for a walk, eat dinner, and then head over to Quynh’s house all within an hour to make it to the movie. To save time, I used my leftover ingredients to make a repeat of yesterday’s salad minus the tuna and Light Sesame Dressing in place of salsa. Needless to say, today ended up being my off day, so it’s a good thing I worked out yesterday!

Hello Bi-Polar Weather

Oh, the meteorologists were right, and it finally feels like October, meaning we got snow (and it’s going to keep coming down in heaps until tomorrow afternoon).

Enjoy my time progression :) The last picture looks so blurry and hazy because the snow flurries are just starting to get intense.

In Time

I hadn’t heard of this movie until Quynh asked if I wanted to go, but I’m glad I decided to go along. I won’t give away much in case some of you are planning on seeing it when it comes out this weekend.


The movie takes place in a time when humans are genetically engineered to stop aging once they turn 25. From the moment they turn 25, a year’s worth of time that is pre-populated onto their “clock” (see glowing green numbers in picture above) starts ticking down. From that moment onward, time is the sole currency that is used in society: you are paid with it, pay for items with it, bet it, you name it. People can still die normally, but you can live forever if you accrue enough time without being murdered, committing suicide, or getting into a fatal accident. Once your time runs out, your heart automatically stops, and you’re dead. No resuscitation here.

Because of the possibility of murder and theft of time, which is exchanged with a special arm link or devices, different “time zones” keep people of similar time living together. It’s like immigration fences on expensive crack. Anway, poor Justin and rich Amanda meet and go through one hell of a time together. This is pretty much all that I can say without giving anything away.

Overall, I really enjoyed the movie because it’s a concept that’s fresh and interesting, like when Inception came out. I can’t say that it’s nearly as good as Inception, but it was definitely worth watching. There was a good enough mix of cheesy romance and violent-ish action to keep everyone happy, and the theater gave it an applause. I might have also found it particularly interesting because I’ve always said that I’d want to be 25 forever. Maybe they performed inception while I was sleeping? :D Anyway, definitely check it out if you were planning on keeping this Halloween weekend more low-key!

It’s getting late over here, and I need to leave early since there’s supposed to be 3-12 inches of snow by the morning, hopefully closer to 3. Good night!
