My Weird Cupcake Habit

I swear that the only time I can tolerate the Rebecca Black “Friday” song is towards the end of the work day on a Friday. At that one moment, it quite possibly becomes my favorite song :P

I had to go to the DMV this morning to get a replacement license because mine fell out of my purse last weekend while I was out…whoops. Luckily, the lines weren’t long, and it made my day at work go by just a little bit faster. Before I knew it, noon had rolled around, and my coworker, Mandy, took me out to lunch at Tokyo Joes. Behold my mostly-eaten Boulder Veggie Bowl w/tofu and brown rice…nom nom.

At least I remembered to take a picture of the scraps...

When I eat something savory, I sometimes crave something sweet right after. Unfortunately, the world must be conspiring to make me fat because Gigi’s Cupcakes just opened up a small cupcake kiosk in the middle of 16th Street Mall, right in front of Tokyo Joes. Yup, I caved, and Mandy bought me a tiramisu cupcake.

Today, C is for Cupcake.

Some people are going to call me crazy when I say this…I really hate having a ton of frosting on my cakes, cupcakes, brownies, or any other frosted, baked good. There, I said it. I get these mental images of my teeth rotting, and then my teeth literally start to hurt just looking at them. Neurosis at its best haha. Therefore, I scrape off ALL but a tiny bit of frosting and then eat my baked good. Hey, at least I save myself from a ton of calories!

Cheesman Park
Today, Quynh and I decided to run at Cheesman Park. We both agreed that running on Fridays after work is nice because a) it’s pretty empty and b) it fills the awkward time gap between work and bar hopping that is usually spent being lazy or napping. Don’t get me wrong, I love being lazy and napping as much as the next person, but with these baked goods I’ve been consuming, I needed the run.

The road to running bliss is not paved in gold, and I like it that way.

Quynh said I was acting like a happy little puppy today because I kept running ahead, snapping pictures, and then waiting for her to catch up before I took off again. I guess Mochi and I have something in common after all.

Afterwards, we took a trip to Whole Foods and loaded up a to-go box at their hot foods bar. Our eyes were wayyyy too big for our stomachs because we already had soup to eat, and we still ended up with 2 pounds of food O.O

So much for burning off that cupcake!

We ate our goods with some Vietnamese noodle soup (bun bo hue) (keep in mind that only my portion of our Whole Foods feast is seen…haha :X)

Ok, time to pull myself together to get ready to hang out with Leenae and Jwa tonight!

C is for Cookie

Hello, everyone! I hope that your night has been half as relaxing as mine has been.

There’s a place in downtown Denver called The Sante Fe Cookie Co, but everyone in my office affectionately refers to it generically as “The Cookie Lady”. She bakes a variety of fresh cookies, cupcakes, and brownies all day long. The cookies themselves are nothing to write home about, but there’s just something about having a fresh baked, hot cookie that can’t be beat. Especially at 3/$1…all those mall cookie shops need to reconsider their pricing.

She’s really popular, so sometimes you only have 2-3 choices, so I opted for the Space Chip aka M&M cookies. OH! I didn’t even mention the best part! To ensure she keeps her baked goods stocked up by baking round the clock, payment is entirely on the honor system. You pick your poison, drop a dollar in the giant jug, and walk out the door. For real, no cash register here.
